This Privacy Policy explains how VOTER FORMATION PROJECT (“VFP”) collects, uses and discloses information about you through the this website and any other websites, mobile applications, and other online services that link to this Privacy Policy (collectively, the “Services”), or when you otherwise interact with us.

 

We may change this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make changes, we will notify you by revising the “Last Updated” date at the top of this policy and, in some cases, we may provide you with additional notice (such as by adding a statement to our homepage or sending you a notification). We encourage you to review our Privacy Policy whenever you access the Services to stay informed about our information practices and the choices available to you.

COLLECTION OF INFORMATION

INFORMATION YOU PROVIDE TO US

We collect information you provide directly to us. For example, we collect information when you use the Services for voter registration outreach purposes, sign up to receive email updates or other notifications (such as SMS alerts), fill out a form, make a donation, send us an email, request information, sign up as a volunteer, sign a petition, use our voter registration tools and look-up tools, participate in interactive areas or features of the Services, or otherwise communicate with us. The types of information we collect may include name, email address, phone number, date of birth, registration status, social media handles or usernames, and other information you choose to provide. In some cases, you may provide your social security and/or driver’s license numbers, but we do not retain this information.

In addition, you may choose to import your address book contacts or enter your contacts’ information manually in connection with your use of certain features of the Services, such as those feature that help you identify with which of your contacts you would like to engage for voter registration purposes. Please note that we do not store any of your address book contacts or any third-party contact information you manually provide through the Services in a persistent manner, and you will need to import or enter such information each time you use the Services.

Automatically Collected Information 

When you access or use the Services, we automatically collect information about you, including:

  • Log Information: We collect log information about your access to and use of the Services, such as your web browser, access times, pages viewed, Internet Protocol (“IP”) address, links clicked, and the page you visited before navigating to the Services.

  • Device Information: We may collect information about the computer or mobile device you use to access the Services, including the hardware model, operating system and version, unique device identifiers, and mobile network information.

  • Information Collected by Cookies and Other Tracking Technologies: We use various technologies to collect information, including cookies and web beacons. Cookies are small data files stored on your hard drive or in device memory that help us improve the Services and your experience on the Services, see which areas and features of the Services are popular, and count visits.   • Provide, maintain, and improve the Services, including to assist you in determining voter registration status and in voter registration efforts;

  • Facilitate your communications with your contacts and other individuals you know in connection with voter registration and other initiatives that are supported or otherwise promoted through the Services;

  • Provide and deliver the information you request, and send you related information such as confirmations and updates;

  • Send you technical notices, updates, security alerts, and support and administrative messages;

  • Respond to your emails, submissions, comments, questions and customer service requests, request feedback, and otherwise contact you about your use of the Services;

  • Send you newsletters, and otherwise provide you with information or services you request or that we think will be of interest to you, such as sending you information to keep you informed about voting and other issues, events, resources, promotions, contests, products and services;

  • Help connect you with other individuals, volunteers or supporters, and to solicit volunteers for issues and organizations we support;

  • Contact you if we need to obtain additional information in order to comply with applicable laws;

  • Monitor and analyze trends, usage and activities in connection with the Services;

  • Personalize and improve the Services, and provide advertisements, content or features that match user profiles or interests or that are based on the information you provide or the actions you take; and

SHARING OF INFORMATION

We may share information about you as follows or as otherwise described in this Privacy Policy:

  • With vendors, consultants, and other service providers or volunteers who need access to such information to carry out work on our behalf;

  • With organizations that facilitate the registration of voters;

  • With candidates, organizations, campaigns, groups or causes that we believe have similar political viewpoints, principles or objectives or share similar goals as VFP, and with organizations that facilitate communications and information sharing among such groups;

  • When we believe in good faith that we are lawfully authorized or required to do so or that doing so is reasonably necessary or appropriate to comply with the law or legal processes or to respond to lawful requests, claims or legal authorities, including responding to lawful subpoenas, warrants, or court orders;

  • If we believe your actions are inconsistent with the spirit or language of our user agreements or policies, or to protect the rights, property and safety of VFP, its employees, volunteers, constituents or others;

  • In connection with, or during negotiations of, any reorganization, formation of a successor organization, asset sale or transfer, financing or lending transaction or in any other situation where information may be disclosed or transferred as one of the assets of VFP; and

  • With your consent or at your direction, including if we notify you through the Services or otherwise that the information you provide will be shared in a particular manner and you provide such information.

We may also share aggregated or anonymized information that does not directly identify you.

The Services may contain links to other websites. For example, we may link to a third-party website to enable you or other individuals to register to vote or make a donation, or to help organize volunteers through a third-party website for our benefit, or we may link to the websites of other organizations with whom we partner. Any information you provide on such third-party websites is provided directly to the third party that operates the third-party website and is subject to that third party's privacy policy. This Privacy Policy does not apply to such linked sites, and we are not responsible for the content or privacy and security practices and policies of such third-party websites. We encourage you to learn about the privacy and security practices of the third parties that operate the third-party websites that are linked from the Services and to review their privacy and other policies before providing them with information.

 

SOCIAL SHARING FEATURES

The Services may offer certain social sharing features and other integrated tools (such as the Facebook “Like” button), which let you interact with VFP and share actions you take on the Services via third-party social media sites. The use of such features enables the sharing of information with your friends or the public, depending on the settings you establish with the entity that provides the social sharing feature. ADVERTISING AND ANALYTICS SERVICES PROVIDED BY OTHERS

We may allow third parties to use cookies, web beacons, or other technologies or otherwise collect information about you in order to provide analytics and advertising services, including serving ads on the Services or on other sites based on your visits to the Services and other sites across the Internet. These entities may collect or receive information about your use of the Services and other websites, including your IP address, browser, device information, pages viewed, time spent on pages, links clicked, and conversion information. This information may be used by VFP and others to, among other things, analyze and track data, determine the popularity of certain content, deliver advertising and content targeted to your interests, and better understand your online activity.
